D-Day Diary - June 7th 1944

WEDNESDAY 7 JUNE 1944

3rd and 4th County of London Yeomanry land on Sword Beach.

Panzer Lehr, still some 50k short of its destination, keeps moving through the daylight hours and is hit repeatedly by Allied fighter/bombers.

Bayeux liberated by British troops of 50th Infantry Division.

Kampfgruppe Keil counterattacks American forces inland from Utah Beach. They capture and hold St Marcouf for a while but are driven off by firing from tanks and warships.

Blockships for the Mulberry Harbour set sail from Poole.
